BLACK HISTORY “WEEK” ALL YEAR

Carter G. Woodson, a founder of the Association for the Study of African American History, who first came up with the idea of the celebration that became Black History Month wrote: “If a race has no history, if it has no worthwhile tradition, it becomes a negligible factor in the thought of the world, and it stands in danger of being exterminated.” He advocated for a “Negro History Year saying that during a school year, “a subject that receives attention one week out of 36 will not mean much to anyone.” Each week SSCC invites you to recognize Black Americans and People of Color making significant, life-changing contributions that improve[d] the quality of living for all and make daily life easier. The following link to Black History Today cites/highlights an African American each day of the month.
