DEACONS AND TRUSTEES

DEACON BETTIE B. PULLEY

Bettie Burton Pulley was born October 5, 1950, to the late Detroit and Odell Hockaday Burton.  She is a graduate of DuBois High School, Wake Forest, NC.

She has worked serving the people in North Carolina State Government, retiring with 33.5 years of service. She performed clerical duties for the NC School Lunch Program, working her way up to Budget Department Supervisor for the NC Secretary of State office. Bettie has also worked as a Patient-Account Representative with Wake Medical Hospital in the emergency room department.

Bettie was raised in the Presbyterian Church, once located on Spring Street, where she was baptized by sprinkling. To be in obedience to God and an example to the people, she was subsequently baptized by immersion. When the Presbyterian church closed its doors, she “prayed to God to place her in a church where she could serve the Lord.” She became a member of Spring Street Christian Church in 1986 under the leadership of Rev. Leon White. Encouraged by Rev. White, she began to serve and joined the usher board. She was appointed Usher Board President. She has also served as Trustee Board Chairwoman under the leadership and guidance of the late Rev. Lenora Sanders.  Bettie has served in other capacities as Church Secretary and Treasurer.

In 2018 she was elected by the congregation for Deacon and training under the guidance and direction of Overseer Angela Bullock and Pastor Eugene Monroe. Through meditation and reading of God’s Word, Bible Study, and diligence in attending worship services, she has prospered, shown growth, and is a beacon of light and love for the people of Spring Street.

Bettie believes “God has placed me where HE wants me to be. I am a servant to His people. Matthew 23:11 makes deaconship an honor: “The greatest among you shall be your servant.” She has declared, “I am not here to serve myself, but to help preserve the harmony of the Church, to be open-minded, and willing to serve in any capacity needed. I am grateful that God saw fit to choose me for this position; I truly thank the Spring Street Christian church family for this opportunity to serve.

Her motto for getting through any challenge: If God has not worked it out, He is certainly still working on it.
