Our Greatest Need?

During this holiday season, is there really anything we need? Of course we all have basic needs: shelter, food, water, and clothing. Some may add education, healthcare, sanitation, safety. And Dr. Kenneth gives us “the 7 fundamental human needs: subsistence, understanding and growth, connection and love, contribution, esteem and identity, self-governance [autonomy], and significance and purpose.” Many just want an end to Coronavirus! Amen! It is difficult to comprehend the rising daily totals of deaths, hospitalizations and increased people testing positive during this pandemic; yet, many resist wearing a mask, staying at home, staying six feet+ from anyone not residing in your home. Our government is playing politics and tolerating the shenanigans of current president Donald Trump while our mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, daughters and sons, aunties and uncles, cousins leave an empty seat(s) at the table and a void in our hearts. To those who have lost relatives due to COVID-19, heartfelt comfort and love to you. We mourn your lost with you.

2 Corinthians 4:8-9:, the MSG Bible translation: You know for yourselves that we’re not much to look at. We’ve been surrounded and battered by troubles, but we’re not demoralized; we’re not sure what to do, but we know that God knows what to do; we’ve been spiritually terrorized, but God hasn’t left our side; we’ve been thrown down, but we haven’t broken. What they did to Jesus, they do to us—trial and torture, mockery and murder; what Jesus did among them, he does in us—He lives! Years ago a friend sent me a Christmas card with a poem by Roy Lessin:

“If our greatest need had been information, God would have sent an educator. If our greatest need had been technology, God would have sent us a scientist. If our greatest need had been money, God would have sent us an economist. If our greatest need had been pleasure – God would have sent us an entertainer… But since our greatest need was forgiveness, God sent us a Savior.”

Let’s celebrate our Savior. “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace.” Share the love this holiday season. Blessings and Favor to you and your family from our Spring Street Christian Church family.
